Childhood obesity has reached an all-time high. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2010, more than one-third of children and adolescents in the United States were considered overweight or obese. The CDC also reports that in the past 30 years, childhood obesity in the United States has more than doubled in children and tripled in adolescents.
Now, the Huntington YMCA, Cabell Huntington Hospital, St. Mary’s Medical Center, the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, and Cabell County Schools have joined forces for Kids in Motion. Our mission is to stop those obesity numbers from rising higher in the West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky Tri-State area by changing children’s unhealthy habits and creating healthier families.
We are working towards this goal by incorporating exercise with fun activities and knowledge about fitness and nutrition for kids, teens and parents.
